  5. (acetylenes) form such series whose members
  6. differ in weight by 14, 12, and 10 atomic
  7. mass units, respectively. For example, the
  8. alkane homologous series begins with methane
  9. (CH4), ethane (C2H6), propane (C3H8), butane
  10. (C4H10), and pentane (C5H12) - each member
  11. differing from the previous one by a CH2
